What actually works, ranked

1. Run the aircon differently. The biggest single lever in most homes. Raise the setpoint a couple of degrees, use a timer so it is not cooling an empty room at 4am, seal the room properly, and clean the filters — a clogged filter makes the unit work harder for the same result. A fan alongside the aircon lets you sit comfortably at a higher setpoint for well under ₱1 an hour.

4. Stop making heat with electricity where you can. Kettles, irons, and electric water heaters draw enormous power for short bursts. Batching the ironing and boiling only what you need genuinely shows up.

  • Fixed charges remain regardless of how little you import.
  • Night-time use still comes from the grid unless you add a battery.

There is a sensible order here. Fix the aircon habits, sort the ref, and get a clear read on your effective rate before sizing a solar system. Two reasons:
