This is the size that fits a modest household properly: one that runs a ref, lights, fans, and the usual electronics, with a bill somewhere around ₱3,000-3,500 a month. It is large enough to make a visible dent and small enough to stay affordable.

At roughly ₱65,000-87,000 per kW this is still above the rate a larger system gets, though the gap has narrowed considerably from 1kW. The fixed costs — permits, labour, net metering paperwork, the electrician’s day — are now spread over twice the capacity.
What will it actually run?
Around 240 kWh a month is roughly ₱3,400-3,600 of electricity at Meralco’s 2026 rate of about ₱14-15/kWh. In practice that covers:
- A refrigerator running continuously
- Lighting throughout the house
- Three or four electric fans
- TV, router, computers, phone charging
- A washing machine several times a week
- Daytime use of one inverter aircon, at the expense of most of the rest
The aircon line is the honest limit. A 1.0 HP inverter unit pulling 700-900W can run off a 2kW array while the sun is up, but it consumes most of what the system is producing at that moment. Nights need either grid power or a battery.
Where the savings actually come from
Under net metering, the power you use as you generate it saves you the full retail rate of about ₱14-15/kWh. Power you export earns a credit of only about ₱5-7/kWh. That difference is why sizing matters more than maximising.
A 2kW system on a home that is empty all day exports most of its output at the lower rate and saves far less than the same system on a home where somebody is in during the day running the fans and the washing machine. Worth doing the arithmetic rather than defaulting to the cheaper one:

The step up buys capacity at a noticeably better rate per kW. If your bill is nearer ₱5,000 than ₱3,000, a 3kW system almost certainly serves you better.

What to check before you sign
- Panel wattage and count, so you can verify the array really is 2kW.
- Inverter headroom if you might expand later. Ask for it now; retrofitting a larger inverter is the expensive way to grow.
