The step from 5kW to 6kW is modest — around ₱50,000 for roughly 120 kWh a month more. If your consumption genuinely absorbs it, that extra output displaces power you would otherwise buy at about ₱14-15/kWh and the upgrade pays for itself quickly.

If it does not, the surplus exports under net metering at roughly ₱5-7/kWh, and you have spent ₱50,000 to earn less than half rate on the difference. The jump to 8kW is a bigger commitment again and only makes sense above roughly ₱12,000 a month.

Roof space is the real constraint at this size

42-54 sqm of genuinely unshaded roof, at a workable orientation, is more than many Philippine homes have available in one plane. Things that bite at 6kW and rarely bite at 3kW:

  • Split arrays. If the roof cannot take all 12 panels on one face, the array splits across two orientations. What about the aircon?

At 6kW you can genuinely run aircon on solar during the day. Two 1.0 HP inverter units drawing roughly 1.6-1.8kW combined leave plenty of headroom in a 6kW array for the rest of the house while the sun is up.

Nights are a different question entirely. Without storage, evening aircon comes off the grid at full retail rate, and evening is when most Philippine households actually want it. What to check before signing

  • Whether the quote is single-phase or three-phase, and whether your existing service can carry the system as designed.
  • Inverter sizing against array size. A 6kW array on an undersized inverter clips output on the best days.
