Hoymiles Microinverter Review (Philippines): Panel-Level Conversion With a New Local Partner
Hoymiles is a Chinese manufacturer of microinverters — the approach that puts a small inverter behind each panel or each pair of panels, instead of running the whole array into one string inverter on the wall.
It matters here for two reasons. First, it entered the Philippine market properly: through a partnership with Brills Marketing Corporation, launched in Manila to a room of installer partners and distributors, with technical training for local crews. That is a real channel, not a marketplace listing. Second, microinverters solve a problem a lot of Philippine roofs actually have.
What a microinverter changes
In a string system, panels are wired in series and the string’s output is dragged toward its weakest member. Shade one panel — a water tank, a vent stack, a neighbour’s wall in the late afternoon — and you lose more than that one panel’s share. Our shading guide covers the mechanism.
A microinverter converts DC to AC at the panel, so each module produces independently. Practical consequences:
- Per-panel shade tolerance. A shaded panel costs you that panel, not the string.
- Panel-level monitoring, so a failing module is identifiable rather than inferred.

- Easier odd roofs. Philippine roofs are frequently multi-plane with different orientations; microinverters let each face do its own thing.

The residential range is single-phase multi-module units — the HM series, with HM-1200 and HM-1500 covering the common residential sizes — plus a broader portfolio of storage and DIY solar products that Hoymiles brought to the Philippine launch alongside the microinverters.
Units are also listed on Lazada Philippines, but for anything you intend to keep for a decade, buy through the distributor channel rather than a marketplace seller. That is the whole reason the Brills partnership matters.
Local availability
Brills Marketing Corporation is Hoymiles’ Philippine partner. The launch included technical training for local installers, which is the part that actually determines whether a technology survives in a market — a product no crew can commission does not get installed twice.
Being honest about the stage: this is a new entry. The channel exists, but the Philippine installed base is small compared with Deye or Growatt string inverters, which local crews have wired thousands of times. Ask your installer directly whether they have commissioned a Hoymiles array before.
What Hoymiles costs in the Philippines
Microinverters are priced per panel rather than per system, which makes them hard to compare against the string-inverter bands directly. Where it falls short
- New to the market. Small Philippine installed base, limited local field history.
- Higher cost per watt than a comparable string inverter.
- More units on the roof. Each microinverter is a component with a service life, mounted where servicing means going back up.
- Not a battery solution by itself. If storage is the goal, a hybrid inverter is the more direct path.
- Installer familiarity is the practical constraint, not the hardware.
Who it’s best for
Homes with shading, multiple roof orientations, or a plan to expand panel by panel — exactly the cases where a string design loses the most. Also worth considering if panel-level monitoring matters to you.
For a simple unshaded roof on one plane, a string or hybrid inverter from a brand every local crew knows will cost less and do the same job. The shade question is what decides it — not the technology being newer.
