Panasonic Solar Review (Philippines): Great Panels You Can No Longer Buy New
Panasonic made excellent, low-degradation panels — but the company has fully exited the solar and battery storage business, so this isn’t a brand you can actually buy new panels from anymore. This review is mainly useful if you already own Panasonic panels and are asking about warranty support.
What happened
Panasonic stopped manufacturing its own solar cells and panels in-house back in 2021-2022, closing factories in Malaysia and Japan and shifting to outsourced manufacturing while continuing to sell Panasonic-branded modules (marketed as EverVolt) through subcontractors. That was already a step back from full in-house production, but the bigger change came later: in a letter to installation partners dated April 28, 2025, Panasonic announced it was discontinuing its entire solar and battery storage line — panels, batteries, and inverters — describing it as a strategic decision rather than a reflection of product quality. Panasonic’s own reported share of new solar installations had fallen from roughly 35% in 2020 to about 6% by 2024 before the exit. Lineup and specs (historical)
Before the exit, Panasonic’s EverVolt line used HJT (heterojunction) cell technology, generally in the 19-21% efficiency range, known in the industry for holding up well over time — degradation as low as roughly 0.25% per year, better than the typical 0.5% industry figure. That’s genuinely strong hardware, and panels already on a roof keep performing the way they always have; the exit doesn’t retroactively change what’s installed.
Warranty
Panasonic has stated it will continue honoring existing warranties, including for systems that weren’t yet fully installed at the time of the announcement, and has pointed customers to third-party warranty-support channels for guidance. If you already have Panasonic panels, that’s the reassuring part. Local availability
Panasonic Philippines’ Electric Works division and past listings named a local distributor for solar panels, but that channel reflects the pre-2025 lineup. With global manufacturing and sales discontinued, there’s no verifiable path to buying new Panasonic solar panels in the Philippines today — old product listings and marketplace pages may still be up, but treat any “Panasonic solar panel for sale” listing you find online with real skepticism about whether it’s genuine remaining stock, and confirm directly with the seller before paying anything.
Price
Not applicable for a new purchase — Panasonic isn’t a panel you can currently spec into a new system. Older market data put installed Panasonic panels at the high end of the price range (previously cited around ₱42,000-56,000 per unit for 400-500W panels), consistent with its premium positioning while it was still being sold, but that figure is now historical rather than a current buying reference.
Where it falls short
The product itself was never the problem — availability is. A brand you can’t currently order new panels from isn’t a realistic option if you’re planning a system today, no matter how good the hardware was.
