Alpha ESS Battery Review (Philippines): A Chinese ESS Maker With a Real Luzon Installer
Alpha ESS (Alpha ESS Co., Ltd, headquartered in Jiangsu, China) is a global energy storage manufacturer with subsidiaries across the US, Europe, Australia, Korea, Singapore and Italy, and it’s been actively courting the Philippine market — exhibiting at Solar & Storage Live Philippines and the Future Energy Show Philippines through 2025. What actually matters for a homeowner is simpler than a trade-show booth: Solarius, a Luzon-based installer operating since 2017, describes itself as the largest installer of Alpha ESS hybrid and off-grid systems in the Philippines, and reports more than 10 MWp of solar and 3 MWh of lithium storage installed across over 350 customers. That’s a real, checkable local channel, not a manufacturer’s country dropdown.
Chemistry and lineup
Alpha ESS’s residential line is the SMILE-G3, an LFP (LiFePO4) battery in a high-voltage stackable architecture, not the low-voltage 48V format that Pylontech and Dyness use. The base module, SMILE-G3-BAT-10.1P, runs at 96V nominal (90-108V operating range) with 10.1 kWh nominal capacity and 9.6 kWh usable, and the system stacks 1-6 modules in parallel up to 60.5 kWh nominal / 57.5 kWh usable. Smaller 3.8 kWh and 8.2 kWh modules are also available for tighter budgets or smaller roofs. The battery is cobalt-free and IP65-rated for outdoor mounting, which matters in a climate with Philippine humidity and typhoon exposure.
On the commercial side, Alpha ESS also fields the STORION line — STORION-M50, STORION-T50/T100, and STORION-H30 — scaling from roughly 34.4 kWh up to 2,073.6 kWh, aimed at commercial and light industrial storage rather than homes.
Cycles, DoD and warranty
Per Alpha ESS’s own datasheet for the SMILE-G3-BAT-10.1P: 95% depth of discharge and a cycle life of 8,000, marked on the sheet as tested “under specific test conditions.” The datasheet lists DoD and cycle life as separate line items rather than stating the cycle count explicitly at that DoD, so treat “8,000 cycles” as a lab figure rather than a guaranteed real-world number at 95% DoD — that’s a distinction worth asking your installer to clarify against the actual test standard. The written warranty on the module is 10 years, battery warranty (not split into a shorter product term and longer performance clause the way some competitors structure it) — confirm with Solarius or your installer whether that’s a straight 10-year replacement warranty or a throughput-capped one, since Alpha ESS’s public datasheet doesn’t spell out a throughput ceiling.
That combination — 95% DoD and an 8,000-cycle claim — sits ahead of Pylontech’s US-series (90-95% DoD, 6,000+ cycles) and roughly in the range of Dyness on paper. Whether it holds up in Philippine heat and humidity over a decade is not something we can verify independently; it’s a manufacturer figure, not a field-tested one.
Inverter compatibility — the real difference from Pylontech and Dyness
This is the spec that changes how you should shop Alpha ESS. Pylontech and Dyness are batteries built to pair with a separate hybrid inverter you choose — Deye, Growatt, Sunsynk, and so on. Alpha ESS’s SMILE-G3 is sold as an integrated system: the battery is designed and warranted against Alpha ESS’s own SMILE-G3 inverter (available in single-phase 3.6-5 kW and three-phase 4-20 kW variants), not as a drop-in for whatever hybrid inverter you already own. If you’re retrofitting storage onto an existing non-Alpha-ESS inverter, this is not the plug-and-play option Pylontech is with Deye — budget for replacing the inverter as part of the system, not just adding a battery to what you have. That’s the same one-brand-ecosystem tradeoff you’d weigh against Tesla Powerwall or LG’s battery line, both of which also tie the battery to their own inverter or gateway hardware.
What it costs
We could not confirm a Philippine-specific installed price for Alpha ESS systems — Solarius doesn’t publish pricing, and we found no marketplace listings to sanity-check against. Installed lithium storage in the Philippines generally runs ₱13,000-23,000 per usable kWh, per our solar battery price guide; given that Alpha ESS is sold as an integrated inverter-plus-battery system rather than a battery alone, get an itemized quote from Solarius that separates the inverter cost from the battery cost so you can actually compare it against a Pylontech-plus-Deye combination on a like-for-like basis.
Where it falls short
The 10-year warranty line item on the public datasheet doesn’t specify a throughput cap, which is either a genuinely simple warranty or an undocumented gap — get the actual warranty certificate in writing rather than relying on the datasheet. The single-installer channel (Solarius) also means less price competition and fewer independent service options than a brand like Pylontech, which is stocked and serviced by multiple Philippine distributors and installers. And the inverter-locked architecture is a real constraint if you already own a hybrid inverter from another brand — you’re looking at a full system swap, not an add-on.
Who it’s best for
Homeowners in Luzon, particularly Solarius’s core Region 1 to Region 4A and NCR service area, who are building a new hybrid system from scratch and want an integrated inverter-and-battery package from one installer rather than assembling components from separate brands. Less suited to someone retrofitting storage onto an existing non-Alpha-ESS hybrid inverter, where Pylontech or Dyness will fit more cheaply.
