Sunways is easy to get wrong, because two descriptions of it are both true. It was founded in Konstanz, Germany in 1993. It is also, today, a Chinese company headquartered in Ningbo.
Both are the same company. In 2018 Sunways took strategic reinvestment from China’s Puze Group, which established Ningbo Sunways Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. and moved the global headquarters and core manufacturing to Ningbo. A regional centre remains in Frankfurt, with another in Suzhou.
Worth stating plainly because it is exactly the sort of detail that gets flattened in a sales conversation — “German engineering” and “Chinese manufacturer” are both used to sell this brand, and neither on its own is the whole picture.

What that ownership history means
The German-origin story is not marketing invention — there is genuine European engineering heritage here, and the company runs a 60,000m² manufacturing base built to German Industry 4.0 standards.
But judge the product on current specifications and the local channel, not on a 1993 founding date. The same reasoning applies to Q CELLS, German-founded and Korean-owned. What a founding country buys you is heritage; what an owner buys you is the balance sheet standing behind a warranty.
